This is the leg press. This machine works muscles in the buttocks, the front of the thigh, the back of the thigh and the calves in an integrated fashion. An important technique point to consider is that we don't want the thigh to drop below the level of 90 degrees at the knee. If it does, it puts a lot of stress on the knee and could predispose to injury. Another important point is that we want the kneecap to follow over the path of the foot during the path of motion of the exercise. We don't want the knees coming close together in this exercise as that also could predispose the knees to injury. Ideally, we'll stop just short of full knee extension and will bend the knees just short of 90 degrees of flexion |
